Sharia Law, Muslim America And You...Let's talk About It!

TODAY!  Wednesday March 30 @ 7pm
880thebiz.com or 880 am (South Florida) or click here

Sharia law, or Muslim Religious law has been in the news alot lately.  Mostly because about a dozen states are trying to ban it, or what they think it is.  Some people say that Sharia law is creeping through our legal system and sowing the seeds to homegrown terror.  Other people say that it really isn't that big of a deal and has been misrepresented in the media.  Join us as we chop it up about Sharia law and what it means in this country.

and later...

The O Miami poetry festival is kicking off in Miami, and we will be joined in the studio by poet, singer, and educator Sunni Patterson and Pete Borrebach to talk about Poetry, Miami, and Poetry in Miami...

AFTERMATH: WAR AND TAXES! LISTEN!

In case you missed it, we had a great show with some real convo on the anniversary of the Iraq War and on the heels of a military intervention in Libya.  We spoke with Mike Prysner, Iraq war veteran and co-founder of March Forward!, a national organization of veterans and service members fighting to end the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.  We also spoke with Ian Thompson, an Attorney with Partnership for Civil Justice.  Perhaps just as lively was the conversation amongst the co-hosts on whether the intervention in Libya was the right or wrong thing to do.

But before that we talked about the push for a law to limit overall tax revenue be tied to inflation and population increases.  They call it TABOR (taxpayer bill bill of rights).  We talked TABOR with Carol Hedges, Director of the Colorado Fiscal Policy Institute who feels that TABOR tanked Colorado.  And we had a back and forth between Karen Woodall of the Florida Center For Fiscal and Economic Policy and Allen Douglas of the National Federation of Independent Business about whether TABOR was good or bad for Florida.

You Break It, You Buy It

War, Taxes and Other Fun Stuff! Let's Talk About It!

TONIGHT - Wednesday, March 23 at 7 p.m. EST
LIVE on 880 AM in South Florida or 880thebiz.com from everywhere.
www.letstalkaboutit.info
American political myth says that Colin Powell summed up his argument against the war in Iraq with the phrase, “You break it, you own it.” This week, the U.S. decided to intervene in Libya. Can might make right? This week also marks the eighth anniversary of “Operation Iraqi Freedom,” which began way back on March 20, 2003. Let’s talk American intervention in Libya, what we’ve learned from the past eight years at war, and how crazy dictators with oil tend to bring liberals and neocons together like nothing else can. We’ll be joined by an Iraq Veteran who helped start March Forward! and a legal expert to help us break down another insane week in the world.

And then...

April 15 is approaching so we started shuffling our pile of W-2s and 1099s. Makes us feel broke. And that the tax system is broke, too. We’ve heard about this “Taxpayer Bill of Rights,” known by the catchy abbreviation, TABOR, and wanted to learn more. Turns out, it is a law that requires tax increases be tied to inflation and population increases supported by a coalition of conservative and libertarian groups. Basically, it makes it impossible for elected officials to raise taxes without a referendum. And it might be coming to Florida. What could TABOR mean for you? We’ve got experts on both sides of the TABOR debate and sparks will fly. We guarantee it will be more fun than doing your own taxes, so tune in.

We want to hear from you! Call us tonight and let us know what you think at (305) 541-2350.

This Party is Just Getting Started! Let's Talk About It!

TONIGHT - Wednesday, March 9 at 7 p.m. EST
LIVE on 880 AM in South Florida or 880thebiz.com from everywhere.

Forget Miami’s Winter Music Conference, the real party last night was in Tallahassee, led by a wild card billionaire with money to burn. The Governor, we mean. Hundreds of people rode up to the Florida state capitol to support the budget cuts or oppose them on the opening day of the state Legislature. Tea parties, Republican parties and Progressive parties are currently rocking that little southern city. From what we hear about the budget proposals, this party is just getting started. Let’s Talk About It’s own Subhash Kateel will call the show tonight with a live, on location, report from the streets of Tally.

Then the party continues...

After we celebrated with tens of thousands of women across the world who gathered together for yesterday’s International Women’s Day, we looked around at women’s health and safety right here in the U.S. All over the country, there are bills trying to redefine rape, criminalize miscarriages, cut funding for women’s health care and child care. Anti-abortion groups are targeting women of color in big money ad campaigns across the U.S. We’ll talk to Tonya Williams who is one of the leaders of the Reproductive Justice movement from Atlanta-based SPARK. Oh, yes, it's ladies night.

Plus, we’ll hear from the folks behind this weekend’s party for a cause... Dance for Haiti, welcome special studio guest, Courtenay Strickland and hear from you, our listeners. Call us and let us know what you think at (305) 541-2350.

TONIGHT - Wednesday, March 9 at 7 p.m. EST

Aftermath: Total Recall and Nip/Tuck! In Case You Missed It...

Hey family,

We had a great show with great guests and great callers.  Its the first time we did two topics of such different themes in one show.  But like we said, some Miami folks think they got solutions to two pressing problems: How do we throw politicians we don't like out of office and how do we make ourselves look better.  Listen to entrepreneur and recall advocate NORMAN BRAMAN and former Commissioner KATY SORENSON debate the current recall election in Miami. And ask yourself Do recall elections undermine democracy or strengthen it?Then listen to Plastic Surgeon DR CARLOS WOLF and Psychology Professor DR. DIONNE STEPHENS talk about what plastic surgery means to us as people and a society.  We had some interesting callers.  You can download the show here or press play below...
